This beautiful sterling silver belt buckle was handcrafted by a Navajo artist using lovely mosaic inlay designs using stones of genuine blue turquoise, wild horse turquoise, lapis and denim lapis, malachite, gaspeite, mother of pearl, tiger eye, orange spiny oyster, clamshell, and black jet. This stone inlay is set into a simple sterling silver bezel with silver adornments of hand saw cuts, silver twisted rope designs and scalloping on the edges. This buckle is approximately 3.5" L x 2.5" W with an inlaid portion of approximately 2.5" L x 1.75" W. This buckle will fit a belt that is approximately 1.5" W. This buckle is signed by the artist and stamped.
Mosaic inlay designs originated from the Santo Domingo Pueblo of New Mexico, but this particular technique can be traced back all the way to the period of the Anasazi. Many current artists model their designs after the early traditions of these pueblos, therefore the mosaic inlay designs are the most popular in collection of Native American jewelry.
